Emergency vehicle access

The Sykesville fire chief said 20-foot roads with parking on both sides block fire trucks 8-10 feet wide and ladder trucks needing 15 feet, trapping apparatus and patients. He praised the Warfield Complex developer for offset parking and working with the fire department.

The Sykesville deputy chief said no-parking rules in these communities are unenforceable, apparatus tail swing sideswipes cars, and new developments lack rear access to buildings. He also suggested performance bonds to guarantee developers deliver required improvements.
